Underfloor heating
In the past, there was a widespread myth that underfloor heating dries out the joints and has an adverse effect on varicose veins. At that time, however, underfloor heating was not regulated and the floor surface temperature exceeded the permissible limit.
Modern radiant surface heating systems are not harmful to health when properly operated and set up. An important condition for this type of heating is that the maximum temperature of heated surfaces must be kept at a level that is safe for health – i.e. 25 to 30°C for underfloor heating.
Compared with conventional heating, the investment cost is approx. 20-30% higher. However, given the heating principle – owing to the high proportion of radiant heat from pipe-based underfloor heating, a feeling of comfort is achieved at a noticeably lower temperature, which you can reduce by 1 to 2 °C. Your annual energy consumption is thus reduced by up to 20 %, and for large heated areas by as much as 25%. In general, an investment in underfloor heating pays for itself within about 5 years.
